Beneficiaries of WRS Donations

Ladies go Homeless for Combat Stress

On Friday 5th May 2017 our chairman, Nigel Mellor, attended the families Centre at RAF Halton to meet up with the team of ladies that had been sleeping out overnight to raise awareness and funds for the charity Combat Stress.

He presented the ladies with a cheque for a substantial sum, to assist them in raising over £4,000 pounds for Combat Stress.

Combat Stress is an amazing charity which supports ex-serviceman who need help in overcoming psychological injuries caused whilst serving their Country.

We are proud to have supported this cause as we know a number of submariners have used Combat Stress in the past.

St Mary’s Hospice

Peter and Nicky Fisher called into St Mary's Hospice to share lovely news. They have selflessly worked to raise over £8,500 for We Remember Submariners by selling their memorial pins. Each pin sold represents a year and each red poppy - a submarine lost 100 years ago in 1916) and the gold poppies represent serving and pledged ex serving members lost in 2016. WRS then donate a percentage of the pin sales to local charities. Peter and Nicky poignantly selected St Mary's Hospice, the local branch of the Sea Cadets and the Barrow British Legion as beneficiaries.

Peter explained: "We chose St Mary's Hospice, (where his wife Nicky works), as Barrow is the only place in the UK that builds submarines and some ex servicemen and dockyard personnel are now using St Mary's services." Thanks to Peter and Nicky's efforts and the WRS we can help keep these services free for patients and their families. Thank you!

As can be seen on St Mary's Facebook Page.

WRS Memorial Bench

We are delighted to announce that the memorial bench, that can be seen below, has been funded by WRemember Submariners and installed, near to the HMS Ark Royal anchor in Plymouth town centre.

We are pleased to have supported the purchase of this memorial bench as we know a number of submariners still live in this historic Royal Navy city.

Barrow Sea Cadets Sailing Centre

On the evening of Friday 15th June 2018, Mr Peter Fisher, representing We Remember Submariners and Mr Ken Collins from the UK Submarine Veterans, presented a cheque to Mr Jason Zacharini, the unit Commanding Officer of the Barrow Sea Cadet Sailing Centre. The donation was raised last year following Peter and Ken’s sterling efforts selling the 2017 WRS pin.

Mr Zacharini graciously accepted the generous donation, on behalf of the cadets, explaining how it would benefit the Sea Cadet Sailing Centre over the coming year.

HMS Collingwood Field Gun Day

After a week of torrential rain and thunderstorms, We Remember Submariners arrived in Fareham for the HMS Collingwood Field Gun competition, where we sponsored the Field Gun crew from HMS Neptune. Fortunately, despite the weather earlier in the week, it was a scorcher of a day.

Relay for Life Donation

We Remember Submariners chairman Nigel Mellor was delighted to present a donation to the Crazy Bunch team recently in aid of Cancer Research, following their epic efforts at the Relay for Life 2018 event.

Relay For Life is a year-round team fundraising challenge bringing communities together to beat cancer.

Teams of family and friends fundraise for life-saving cancer research. Then join a 24-hour celebration to show that together we are stronger than cancer.

WRS is proud to support this initative.
