Andrew MahoodCPO Andrew Mahood was a CT1 who served aboard submarines Finwhale, Cachalot, Onslaught and Osiris between 1968 and 1978.

alex menzies2 150x150RS Alex Menzies served aboard submarines Odin, Valiant, Warspite, Orpheus, Osiris and Oberon between 1962 and 1979.

He was a joker until the last, never allowing the cancer that claimed him to beat his sense of humour.

No Picture 150x150CPO Michael ‘Bungy’ Edwards was a member of the North East Branch of the SA after serving aboard submarines Trump, Tudor, Totem, Truncheon, Amphion and Turpin between 1957 and 1964.

At this time, unfortunately, we have no photographs of Bungy.

At Fiddler’s Green, where seamen true
When here they’ve done their duty
The bowl of grog shall still renew
And pledge to love and beauty.

Tom Roan 150x150Tom Roan was one of our members from the USA. Hugely respected and liked, he was a strong influence within the USN submariner veteran community.

A lifelong submariner, ‘Chief of the Boat’ Tom served aboard many conventional and nuclear submarines, including USS CATFISH (SS-339), USS George Washington (SSBN598), USS Ethan Allen (SSBN/SSN-608) and USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN-633). He was also involved in the Aluminaut project.

Unfortunately, we in the UK know very little about Tom … but he did like to share a Frederick Marryat verse with his ‘Brothers of the Phin’, so it seems fitting that we quote it here:

William McNeil 300x267CPO(TS)(SM) William McNeil served in HM Submarines from 1965 until 1988, aboard Walrus, Odin, Onslaught, Dreadnought and Turbulent.

A long-term member of the Dolphin Branch of the Submariners Association, ‘Billy Mac’ valiantly fought cancer for over two years before crossing the bar on 18th February 2014.

Ken WilliamsRO1 (G) Ken Williams served twice on HMS Warspite during his time as a submariner between 1968 and 1975, as well as aboard submarines Courageous, Odin and Otter.

After leaving the Submarine Service, Ken was a member of the Barrow-in-Furness Branch of the Submariners Association.

Brian YoungCPO Brian John ‘Brigham’ Young.
